Stan Campbell has been a fundraising professional since 1978. He worked in the central development office for nine years at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, managing nearly every aspect of development, from direct mail and phonathons to corporate and foundation relations. He initiated UNC’s parents’ campaign and student giving program, which became the nation’s model senior class gift program and CASE National Award winner. He also selected and trained volunteers, organized and ran reunion campaigns, staffed the Annual Giving Council, and was instrumental in revamping the central annual giving program to include 16 schools/foundations on campus.
In 1987, Stan joined Al Ruffalo with Teleconnect Data Base Marketing Company as Assistant Vice President and managed fundraising programs for nearly 40 institutions in the Southeast from Chapel Hill. In 1991, when RuffaloCODY was founded, he became Vice President and developed the MASTERS Program for On-Campus Phonathon Management, RuffaloCODY’s full-time, year-round, on-campus management of phonathon programs. He is now President of the MASTERS Division and has nine Vice Presidents reporting to him in sales, consulting, and operations.
Also in 1991, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE), now known as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), awarded Stan its professional fundraiser certification (CFRE). In 1995 on National Philanthropy Day, Stan was named AFP’s ‘Professional Fund Raiser of the Year’ for the Research Triangle area of North Carolina (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill).
Stan consults with colleges and nonprofit organizations about their annual, capital, and prospect file strategies and tactics, and has held national fundraising seminars since 1985 on special constituency giving programs. He continues to live in Chapel Hill, NC, with his wife, son and daughter. He is county-wide chair of the annual United Way of Chatham County campaign, chair of the fundraising committee and board member of the Chatham Education Foundation, and chair of the stewardship campaign at his church.
