Hartwick College – Oneonta, NY
In 2003, Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York was faced with the challenges of simultaneously increasing enrollment and lowering the discount rate. At the time, Hartwick College was using RuffaloCODY Qualification (RCQ) to qualify a portion of its inquiry pool. RCQ is a point in time attitudinal survey that identifies the “right” students in the inquiry pool for a college to direct recruitment efforts strategically and effectively, making it possible to reach the enrollment goals in an accurate and resourceful way.

Aquinas College – Grand Rapids, MI
Aquinas College has been successfully using the Enrollment Strategy Profiler (ESP) tool for the last six years to help increase enrollment. ESP is a sophisticated overlay of historical (predictive modeling) and current attitudinal data (qualification survey) used to provide targeting of those inquiries most likely to enroll. In general ESP identifies two sets of inquirers – high profile and low profile. High profile inquirers represent a small percentage of the overall inquiry pool and produce an overwhelming percentage of enrollments, while low profile inquirers represent a large portion of the inquiry pool and a small percentage of enrollments. We already know that ESP clients have been successful reaching enrollment goals through better targeting, one to one marketing and shifting human resources to recruit the right students. But does ESP have any impact on retention?

Regis Univeristy – Denver, CO
Successful enrollment efforts begin with building an appropriate inquiry pool. To accomplish this, Regis employed RuffaloCODY’s Enhanced Search Strategies (ESS). A traditional search approach focuses primarily on generating inquiries, but fails to assess activity further through the admission cycle. The underlying principle behind RuffaloCODY’s ESS is that search success should be defined by getting students who apply – and subsequently enroll. RuffaloCODY uses logistical regression analyses based on the geo-demographic characteristics of Regis’ three-year history of applicants. These models presented Regis with the ability to focus its data purchase to the precise zip codes from which they have been successful in the past and strategically select those similar ones where they could be successful. The end result was that by using RuffaloCODY’s ESS Regis was able to front-load the search with the best possible search prospects, reduce the waste associated with buying “weak names,” and subsequently, allocate its outreach resources to be most aggressive with the strongest of the purchased names.
