John Casteen

Mr. Casteen most recently served as president of the University of Virginia from 1990-2010; and he remains a consultant for the university.  Previously, he was president of the University of Connecticut from 1985-1990; served as Virginia’s secretary of education from 1982-85; and dean of admission for the University of Virginia from 1975-82.  He began his career as a member of the faculty at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Virginia.  Mr. Casteen is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Board of Trustees and was named a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2009.
